TRAVERTINE FLAMED – CLEANING & SEALING

Different surfaces have different requirements in order to keep their beauty and integrity.
Aqua-Seal STS offers Pre-Grout Sealing, Sealing, Maintenance and Restoration specifications. These are listed below for your convenience.

Travertine is a form of limestone (sedimentary rock) formed in hot springs and/or limestone caves. It is a durable stone and consists of naturally formed holes caused by carbon dioxide or CO2 bubbles. These holes are usually filled at the factory during fabrication or with grout or cement during installation. Like most sedimentary rocks, travertine colours range from white, cream & buff through to tan, brown and red. The flamed, old world, rustic look is achieved by wetting, then running an oxygen-acetlyene or propane torch over the stone causing the surface layer to expand and flake off, exposing rough stone. Due to the high content of calcium carbonate, travertine is susceptible to etching from acid based contaminants eg wine, citrus, soft drinks.
