Granite is an igneous (volcanic) rock formed from the slow cooling of rock in the deep upper part the earths’s crust. It is a very hard, granular, crystalline, rock consisting mainly of quartz, mica and feldspar. Granite is the best-known igneous rock. It is easily recognized due to its coarse-grain. As it is one of the hardest wearing stones, it is the choice of stone most commonly used as counter tops, floor tiles, paving stone, curbing, stair treads, building veneer, and cemetery monuments. A tumbled finish is a flat, matt antique/old world look with irregular edges achieved during the tumbling/ageing process.
